Special Forces Handbook Review

Special Forces Handbook

This book is everything that the review says it is. The best thing about military handbooks it that they get right to the nitty gritty without all the fluff and bull that are in other books; they simply give the information in the most straight forward and easy way to understand. This handbook has a lot of illustrations and graphs. Some highlights are the ground-air emergancy code chart and the weapons, survival, and first aid manuals. Plus there are some stuff in here that not all people should have knowledge of, such as demolitions. Just so you know, since it's not mentioned elsewhere, this handbook comes small and pocket size.

SAS Survival Guide Handbook (Collins Gem) Review

SAS Survival Guide Handbook (Collins Gem)

The British Special Air Service (SAS) is an elite military unit trained for long range patrols, sabatoge and covert operations far behind enemy lines. The U.S. Navy SEAL teams are trained on principles developed by the SAS nearly fifty years ago. SAS troops are deployed to some of the most remote regions on the planet and for this reason, must be experts in outdoor survival. John Wiseman is a former SAS survival instructor, so you can rest assured that you are receiving the best available information. The techniques desribed in this book are simple, functional and extremely clever, all hallmarks of SAS operations. The section on traps and snares is spectacular! All drawings are clear and easy to understand and the book is organized into specific geographic regions according to climate(i.e. deserts, jungles, etc.). I have spent most of my professional career in the woods (I'm a biologist by trade)and I use the information in this book on a daily basis, including training fellow employees in the basics of land navigation, improvised direction finding, and basic "woodsmanship". Additionally, I apply the SAS mindset to daily problem solving and find that it serves me well. The book comes in two sizes and I can highly recommend the pocket sized version for your pack or field bag. I can not say enough good things about this book. I have over fifty survival books in my personal library and this is the one I use as my bible. I can also highly recommend the SAS Escape,Evasion and Survival Manual by Barry Davies. It contains the same high quality info. as this book plus some additional goodies!

Weapons of the Navy Seals Review

Weapons of the Navy Seals

This book missed it release date many times. I had hoped it would be up to the standards of the authors previous book Weapons of the Navy Seals Volume 1 from a few years ago (there never was the promissed V2). However this book falls short of the mark. The information is dated and there are very few illustrations. The information presented on pre 1990 is pretty good, however the lack of photos and supporting data is a great detraction. I really hope the author does follow up with better supported title. Until then I reccomend Pushies book on Weapons of the Navy Seals.

For the first time, one painstakingly researched volume unveils the weapons and ammunition that have served the SEALs in combat operations around the globe. Much more than a mere catalog of arms, this book traces each weapon from the development stage to its current form. Also included are exclusive accounts from the men who were among the first to see these weapons used in armed conflict. Written with the cooperation of the UDT/SEAL Museum Association in Florida, and packed with detailed information and photos--some never before in print--this book offers fresh insight into the technology that for decades has sustained the Navy SEALs as an unstoppable military force.--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
