I bought this book for Lora Leigh (a fave erotic romance author) and Susan Donovan (a fave contemporary romance author) and neither of then let me down. I enjoyed both of their stories. I had never read anything from Carrie Alexander but I enjoyed her story as well. I must say that I was a bit surprised at Ms Britton's story and found myself not enjoying it at all.
First up is Ms Alexander's story of Estrella and Jesse. Estrella has been lusting after a guy working on a road crew in the neighborhood where she works. She's a maid for a wealthy female executive and when her boss goes out of town on business, she borrows her car, her clothes and her apartment in order to lure the hot road crew guy into her bed. Jesse sees through her "car trouble" ploy immediately but decides to see where this whole farce will go. If she's a rich lady looking to play, why not play along? Well, what he finds is a woman full of contradictions and obviously, as he discovers, not what she seemed. I liked this story. Sure, the plot is contrived but what I really liked were Estrella and Jesse. It's rare to find blue collar leads in romances and here we have a Latina and an ex-con who are both trying hard to build better lives for themselves after past mistakes. I found it refreshing, enjoyable and, of course, steamy!
To be honest, I more skimmed than read Ms Britton's story of a woman who had been raped by her fiance who is looking to get her sexual footing back. She returns to her home town and to the guy whose heart she broke in high school. He's the only guy she trusts to help her recover her sexual self. Of course he is all too willing to comply. Yuck. I thought she was incredibly selfish and he put up with way too much. And I feel I must warn readers of her other books who may not expect it, she does push the envelope with a rather torrid girl-on-girl scene. Not for me.
Susan Donovan is one of my fave authors of contemporary romance and this is another of her fun, amusing and sexy stories. Win is a screenwriter who has hit a slump but still has a deadline to meet. Her agent sends her off to his cabin in the woods to get her inspiration back. Fully knowing that some of the appliances may not be in working order and that her neighbor Mac, a capable and hunky Navy SEAL on leave, is nearby to fix anything that goes wrong. Anything. Will he agree to be her muse? Sexy fun!
In Lora Leigh's story Raven has had it bad for Reno for years. They both know it just as she knows he's been crazy about her as well. He never acted on his feelings because she was too young at the time. He joined the Navy, traveled the world, waiting for her to mature. Now he's back, home on leave, and the waiting is over. He and Raven will finally act on the mutual attraction that sizzles between them. But when feelings intensify can Raven get over her fears about his being a SEAL? She saw what it did to her parent's marriage, can she deal any better than her mother? Intense, hot and emotional. Classic Lora Leigh.

Dangerous Games (Tempting SEALs) Review

Dangerous Games (Tempting SEALs)

Lora Leigh's book has received some great reviews on here, but I simply can't get past the enormous errors printed on those pages. First of all, I felt like I fell into the story around Chapter 8 of a much longer work. Obviously this is the second book in the series, but there wasn't enough backstory to actually make me feel as though I understood what had happened previously. Characters popped up and faded away as Leigh needed them in or out of the story.
The errors...oh my. First of all, the story is about Navy SEALs. Why does Leigh write TWICE that the hero, Clint, joined the Army? The Army and the Navy are different branches of the military. She calls him "Special Forces" which is a group in the Army. She also has her hero drop out of high school at 17 and join the military...sorry, folks, that can't happen. Under the age of 18, a recruit must have the signature of his parents to join (I know, 'cause I did). Also, you must have at least a GED to join if you don't have a high school diploma.
Next we have a bunch of SEALs apparently stationed around Atlanta, GA because they all have apartments there. A very distinct part of joining the Navy and being a SEAL is the fact that you work around large bodies of water, such as the ocean. There is no ocean near Atlanta. That may be the reason that the real SEAL teams are based out of coastal Virginia and coastal California.
Leigh places her characters in a club in South Carolina. It's a two hour drive from Atlanta to the SC border. That seems like a long drive just for a hot nightclub.
And let's talk about the clubs that her SEALs frequent. They are BDSM clubs, and apparently it is a well-known fact that her SEALs have been partying here for years now. Only problem there is, half the stuff that happens in BDSM clubs is illegal according to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Now, I understand that SEALs follow a slightly different set of rules, but no one would allow it to be so very well known that they go to BDSM clubs and possibly cause the loss of a career.
Another point I questioned...how did the hero come up with the $40,000 needed to gain exclusive entrance to one of the clubs at the same time that he was sending enough money to his mother that she could buy a house with it? Leigh never states what rank her hero has gained, but unless he's an Admiral, the money he is spending seems a bit more than his budget will allow.
Those were the most glaring problems I encountered. The drug operation that is running was slightly confusing to me, as were the intentions and actions of the bad guy.
The "erotic" aspect of the book was good: Leigh is deliberate in her sex scenes and adds plenty of emotional ground for her characters to cover while they're getting hot and heavy.
As a story, I would probably give the book three stars, but with all the errors I found, I'm stretching to give it two. Either Leigh's research or her editor should have picked up on these obvious problems.

Navy SEAL Clint "Iceman" McIntire didn't earn his nickname by being a coward. Or a quitter. Having crushed an infamous drug cartel in Colombia, Clint was nothing short of an American hero. Now he's home, on a much-needed leave, but instead of some R&R, he finds himself neck-deep in trouble with his best friend's little sister, Morganna Chavez, the only woman who has the power to bring him to his knees. . .Morganna has been secretly working with the DEA to uncover a thriving date-rape drug, which leads her to a shadowy faction that is more deadly than anything her team has ever encountered. Now it's up to Clint to keep this beautiful, determined agent out of harm's way, even while the passion between them threatens to consume them. Soon Clint's greatest mission will be not just keeping Morganna safe, but getting her into his arms and never letting go.

Three talented authors come together to deliver a trio of action-packed romantic adventures that will leave you dreaming of your own hero! Indeed, I would be more than happy to have any of the heroes in this anthology RESCUE ME!
Individually, each story in RESCUE ME earns a top rating of five. Together, they will more than knock your socks off!
~TROPICAL HEAT by Cherry Adair~
When the woman he loves is kidnapped by a ruthless terrorist, Sam Pelton will do whatever it takes to save Elizabeth. Braving the jungles of Africa and a cadre of villains that would make most men quake in their boots, Sam puts all of his skills as a special ops agent to use in order to rescue her.
Why, oh why have I not read Cherry Adair's work sooner? TROPICAL HEAT was my first taste of this author's talent and left me wanting more!
When we meet Sam and Elizabeth, they are thick in the middle of danger, after dancing around each other romantically for the last year. Well, to be perfectly honest, Elizabeth didn't think she was even on Sam's radar, although he was all she thought about since her divorce.
As it turns out, Sam was just biding his time, but he certainly had plans for the beautiful doctor. Plans that are moved up when he very nearly loses her in a way all too permanent. Sam pulls out all the stops, and shows himself to both Elizabeth and readers as the hero he truly is, leaving us to fall desperately in love with this man, just as Elizabeth does.
~ATLANTA HEAT by Lora Leigh~
Macey March is the most irreverent, troublesome member of his team of Navy SEALs. His antics have earned him a few demotions in rank along the way, and the ire of the Admiral himself. Emerson Delaney, the Admiral's delicious little goddaughter has played no small part in those troubles. It seems Macey just can't stay away from the imp, no matter how bad a career move it is to put the moves on her.
When Emerson is kidnapped by terrorists intent on wreaking revenge on the Admiral through his beloved goddaughter, Macey will stop at nothing to rescue her from danger. That's the easy part. The hard part comes afterwards - keeping her safe until they ferret out the mole whose very existence continues to threaten the woman that Mace comes to realize he can't live without.
As a major fan of Lora Leigh's, I chose to read RESCUE ME strictly because of her story in it, and once again, she didn't disappoint. ATLANTA HEAT is part of her popular TEMPTING SEALS series, and tells the story of that bad boy we've come to know and love in the previous books - Mason March.
Macey may come across as a bad boy, but in this novella we find that deep down, he is a family man at heart, and he only has eyes for Emerson Delaney, no matter how much trouble he has landed himself in through his previous interactions with her. That should tell him something right there, right? Macey isn't into denial, and he knows that Emerson is the woman for him. Of course, he has also gathered quite a bit of intel on the object of his considerable affections, and knows it will take a lot to win her trust and her heart.
Holing up with her in his safe-house provides the perfect opportunity for an all-out romantic assault, Macey-style. Emerson never stands a chance!
This heroine isn't at all shy and submissive, though, and she gives to Macey as good as she gets. He calls her an imp, and it is a description she has earned. She can't resist playing the smart-aleck, especially when under extreme duress. That wise-cracking attitude, however, covers a vulnerable core that believes she will always be alone. It's a good thing Macey knows just how to break through that core...
After waiting a long time for Macey's story, he surpassed my ideals. ATLANTA HEAT is a sensual treat that will raise your temperature and keep you coming back for more!

Wild Card ~DESERT HEAT by Cindy Gerard~
Seth King and Elena Martinez should be on the same side. After all he is a police detective and she is an assistant D.A. True, their goals may be aligned, but they have very different ideas of how to best serve justice.
When this unlikely pair is teamed together on a scavenger hunt for charity, they are isolated together in the wilderness of the Grand Canyon - or so they think. Someone is watching them, and that someone will seize their chance for vengeance very soon. But before that happens, they find that sometimes oil and water really do mix well as they discover a deep-seated attraction for each other...
Cindy Gerard is another new author for me, and I enjoyed her story as much as I did the first two in the RESCUE ME anthology.
Unexpected romance in the great outdoors is the theme for DESERT HEAT, and I have to say that a hero like Seth King makes me wish I were more outdoorsy myself! I'd love to share a sleeping bag built for two with this sexy alpha male. Heck, I'd like to share a sleeping bag built for one with him! *grin* Seth's determination to see to Elena's safety when violence threatens is the stuff heroes are made of, and his willingness to sacrifice himself for her will melt even the hardest of hearts.
Of course, it certainly has that effect on Elena herself, who had already begun to respond to Seth's magnetism before the enemy struck, but once she sees who this man is deep down, she is hopelessly smitten. This intrepid heroine pulls her own weight in their rescue, however, and it is no stretch of the imagination to understand why a man like Seth would fall for her.

Killer Secrets (Tempting SEALs) Review

Killer Secrets (Tempting SEALs)
Average Reviews:

Traitor. That's what they call Ian Richards these days. Ever since he abandoned the Navy SEALs to work for his biological father's drug cartel, no one knows what to make of Ian's loyalties.
No one, that is, except Kira Porter. Between her intel as an undercover agent for the Department of Homeland Security and her intuition as the woman who loves Ian, she knows what side of the fence he is on, and come hell or high water, she will be there to back him up. No one will stop her - not even Ian himself.
With her latest release in her Tempting SEALs saga, Lora Leigh ramps up the action and suspense even higher than before! Fans of this series will not want to miss Killer Secrets when it releases March 4, 2008. This gripping story is packed with intrigue, drama, emotion, and the kind of highly erotic love scenes fans of this author have come to crave.
I really do not know how Lora Leigh does it. She could write a phone book that would make the reader hot and bothered! Although many of her heroes share some basic qualities (who doesn't love a good Alpha male hero?), she manages to create very individual characters, who are definitely their own men. One could never confuse one of these men for the other, despite their similarities.
Ian is just the kind of head-strong, hard-headed Alpha male that makes for a great romantic hero. He has more issues than you can shake a stick at, but that somehow only enhances his appeal. Then again, he has far more good qualities than he does issues, so it balances out in the end... And the issues he has? Well, they aren't anything the love of a good woman can't see him through.
Kira Porter is nothing if not a good woman. Although an heiress with more money in her account than most of us see in a lifetime, she works tirelessly as an undercover agent in defense of her country - not because she needs to, but because she wants to. How could Ian not love and admire a woman with the kind of values he himself holds dear? Of course, that doesn't stop him from trying to keep Kira out of the action, for her own safety, he says. Those Alpha males come with some pretty heavy duty protective genes, you know.
Out of all of the Tempting SEALs novels, Killer Secrets has to be my favorite yet. There is so much involved in this book - plot twists, numerous intrigues, plans within plans. People are rarely who they seem on the surface, and the situation is rarely under anyone's control, but in the end things wrap up for a great happy ending for Kira and Ian.
Even with our daring couple's happy ending, we most definitely haven't seen the last of this riveting saga. Ms. Leigh keeps the plots spinning as she continues the ongoing storyline that weaves throughout all of the books in the Tempting SEALs series. I know that I am absolutely aching with anticipation for the next one!

Wild Card (Elite Ops, Book 1) Review

Wild Card (Elite Ops, Book 1)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Nathan Malone lived a nightmare in prolonged captivity at the hands of a Colombian drug cartel. Pumped full of an experimental drug designed to stimulate the victim's libido to an uncontrollable level, he never broke his commitment to his beloved wife Bella, although the pain was torturous.
Once rescued, he knew he could never return to Bella, else he would put her in danger from the villains that nearly destroyed him once before. Her only chance is if they believe him dead.
And so Noah Blake was born. With a new face and a new name, he can operate under the radar as part of an Elite Ops unit to bring the cartel down.
Now danger threatens Bella regardless of Nathan's absence from her life. To save her, he must go undercover as Noah Blake, sticking close to her side even while trying to keep his emotional distance, knowing they can never be together again. Easier said than done...
Lora Leigh launches her brand new book series, ELITE OPS, with lead character Nathan Malone/Noah Blake, best known for his appearances in the TEMPTING SEALS stories she has published. ELITE OPS is the start of a new saga, but is very much connected to the SEALs books Leigh's fans know and love. They even share a mission similar to the Durango team from those previous books, but with a different team of special agents, all of whom have left their previous lives for an existence based on complete anonymity.
The men of ELITE OPS have lost everything - family, lovers, anything to do with their previous lives. All of them have assumed new names, and none of them form emotional attachments.
Yeah, right. *grin* This wouldn't be a Lora Leigh romance if they didn't have emotional attachments, now would it? LOL
OK, so they aren't supposed to have relationships. That doesn't stop them, though, it only provides delicious obstacles to the happy ending we all know will be at the end of these tales. And so readers enjoy watching men who have steeled themselves against love fight a losing battle as they come face to face with the women who not only complete them, but challenge them, meeting them as equals in this battle of hearts.
The romance between Bella and Nathan/Noah in WILD CARD is all at once heartbreaking and uplifting. Nathan is a man who loves so absolutely that he can never be with a woman other than his Bella, no matter that her love is forever lost to him. He'll do anything, sacrifice everything, just to keep her safe and happy, no matter the cost to himself. His heart and soul yearn for the woman he loves, until what little resistance he had mustered crumbles beneath the weight of their mutual desire.
Bella is just a beautiful character. I'm not talking about looks, although obviously she is lovely, judging by the description of her in the book. Her personality is what really makes us believe that a man like Nathan could not only fall in love with her but forsake all other women in favor of Bella. Of course, she has done the same thing for her Nathan. No matter that she has been told he is dead, somehow her heart never quite believes it, and she cannot move on - until Noah Blake appears on her doorstep.
What ensues when these two are finally reunited are some emotionally charged, scintillating love scenes that will have you squirming in your seat even while you are reaching for tissues to dry your eyes.
Over the years, Lora Leigh has developed into an author adept at playing readers' emotions as easily as she might a musical instrument, and never has this been more evident than in the heart-stopping romance in WILD CARD.

It was supposed to be simple. All Navy SEAL Nathan Malone had to do was rescue three young girls from a Colombia drug cartel, then allow himself to be captured just long enough to draw out a government spy. That was before his mission went disastrously wrong…and before his wife, Bella, was told that Nathan was never coming home. Bella's mourned her husband's death for three long years. But she has no idea he's still alive. Forced to assume a new identity, the man Nathan was is now dead. If he can get back to his wife, can he keep the secret of who he really is…even as desire threatens to consume them? And as danger threatens to tear Bella from Nathan's arms once more?

This is my Recommended Read for June 2007!
The Navy SEAL team code named Durango Team has been tasked with protecting Senator Stanton and his daughter Emily from the latest threat posed by drug cartel kingpin Diego Fuentes. But playing bodyguard to the adventurous Emily is tricky when just keeping up with this hellion is a full-time task!
Enter Lieutenant Kell Krieger. He has known the Stantons for years, and watched Emily for most of that time between missions. Being assigned to personally protect Emily guarantees he'll be in close contact with the aspiring writer 24/7, but she'll not find it as easy to scare Krieger off as she did all of her previous bodyguards. He knows what makes her tick, understands her frustrations, and intends to show her how to spread her wings while keeping her pretty little butt safe from all threats. Still, the capable SEAL finds the Senator's daughter more than a handful, and her mere presence menaces his normally unshakeable control.
He just needs to keep her safe until Durango Team uncovers the mole who has been feeding information to Fuentes and has demanded Emily's death. But keeping his heart safe from Emily proves to be the real challenge...
Okay, I will admit it up front. I am a fool for sexy Cajun men, and Navy SEAL Lieutenant Kell Krieger tops my list of men fitting that description! Lora Leigh's fourth installment in her Tempting Seals series continues the ongoing saga of the Durango Team's mission to defeat the evil Diego Fuentes and the drug cartel leader's continuing attempts to retaliate against the SEALs and their loved ones for the battles they've already won against him. This series captivated me from book one, and Hidden Agendas further entrenches my love for these hunky SEALs!
Emily embodies the poor little rich girl type heroine, having been held captive by a life a privilege, denied the freedoms enjoyed by most due to the dangers surrounding the daughter of a man in her father's position as a Senator and ex-SEAL agent himself. She bucks against his control and the stifling presence of the revolving door of bodyguards he saddles her with. While most of us have not grown up in her specific situation, it is still easy to identify with her as a woman who is fighting for her independence.
Kell is the perfect hero for Emily. Having suffered unbearable tragedy in his past, he is a man who needs a woman who can stand by his side, not behind him. While certainly he tops the list of Alpha Males, he is strong enough to allow his woman her independence she needs and freedom to determine her own destiny. Indeed, he bolsters her courage and determination to stand up for herself, winning her heart and locking their souls together forever in the process.
If you loved the suspenseful storylines in the previous Tempting Seals editions, then you will be gratified to know that Hidden Agendas is fraught with just as many twists as the stories that preceded it! Leigh managed to throw me some curve balls, and kept me sitting on the edge of my seat until I turned the very last page.
Of course, while the story wraps up some of the mysteries, the author leaves plenty of room for sequels, which I am itching to get my greedy little book loving hands on!
This series knocked my socks off from book one, delivering all of the sexual intensity you expect in a Lora Leigh book, coupled with the sweet romance and happy ending she can always be relied on for.

HIS BODY ELECTRIC by Carrie Alexander
Karen's moved from the city to a farmhouse in Iowa. She's an artist who makes sculptures out of metal. To make ends meet she works from home as a virtual service representative selling various products for companies over the phone.
Gabe is staying at a friend's cabin a few miles from Karen's place. He's taking time to assimilate recent events that have left him a little rattled and makes living a normal life difficult for him.
After getting all the farm animals tucked safely into the barn for the night, Karen makes a mad dash through a violent lightning storm to reach her house but collides with a man before she reaches safety. The last thing Gabe expected when he went seeking shelter from the storm is for Karen to use her sexy voice to seduce him. There's just no way she can pass up the opportunity to be with a man who positively makes her body tingle.
Carrie Alexander will delight readers with this sizzling novella. The characters and plot are exciting and fresh with thrilling interactions that will keep readers enthralled in the storyline.BED AND BREAKFAST by Susan Donovan
A series of unfortunate occurrences have city girl/corporate dynamo Kate Dreyfuss stressed out to the breaking point. Her boss has ordered that Kate take a vacation to Windwalker Lodge, a spiritual retreat, where Kate will supposedly have some life-altering change by communing with nature.
Jorey Matheny is the proud owner of the Windwalker Lodge. He's easygoing and practices the natural lifestyle for which his lodge is well-known. Jorey's own past history makes it easy for him to understand Kate but getting her to stay long enough to be helped may be another story.
The pilgrimage that Kate had been signed up for was last month, she missed it. Now the lodge is under complete renovation. Only one room is furnished - the one where Jorey's been sleeping. He gives her his room and sleeps elsewhere but that doesn't stem her anger and resentment at the whole situation. It'll take an act of mother nature for Kate to accept Jorey's help - and everything else he has to offer.
I love the spiritual feel that Susan Donovan incorporates throughout this novella. Kate and Jorey are polar opposites and their interactions are fascinating and fraught with tension. FOR MAGGIE'S SAKE by Lora Leigh
Maggie Samuels is in a world of trouble! Her husband whom everyone believes adored her is killed. He left behind evidence implicating her as knowing all about his illegal dealings with the Fuentes famly that resulted in the death of some Navy SEALs.
Joe Merino has been in love with Maggie for years. Certainly long before she met and married Grant. He desperately wants to believe in her innocence even though the mounting evidence says otherwise.
Despite Maggie's insistence that she doesn't know anything about Grant's illegal doings there is a price on her head. There is evidence that would seal the government's case against the Fuentes family that she's believed to be able to locate. Joe opts to take Maggie to a safe house where he'll either get the information from her himself or he'll confirm her innocence. What he isn't prepared for is the real truth that she reveals about her marriage or the passion that explodes between them.
Lora Leigh books have become a staple in my reading diet. She expertly combines suspense, really hot sex, and kick butt dialog that leave readers gasping in wonder and devouring the pages. This is the third story in Ms. Leigh's TEMPTING SEALS series. Absolutely delectable.SIREN'S CALL by Lori Wilde
Annie's returned to St. Augustine to run her grandfather's dive shop while he's recuperating from surgery following a broken hip. She's avoided Duncan since the night they made love and destroyed their friendship five years ago.
Duncan has always loved Annie. He just didn't believe that he was good enough for her. He's worked hard over the years to be the kind of man she deserves. Now he fears he might be too late.
Duncan is determined to get Annie to give him a chance but it won't be easy. She's practically engaged and has her own life in Manhattan. He's got the one thing that he hopes can entice her to give them a chance. It's a map to the location of the Siren's Call. Annie's parents had died during one of their many dives in search of the fabled idol. Will a search for the idol bring Annie and Duncan together again? What about the aphrodisiac properties the idol possesses? Can Annie possibly resist the combination of potent mixture of Duncan and the idol?
Lori Wilde will entice readers to go in search of hidden treasure preferably with a sexy hunk of your own, but not before you finish reading this novella. I loved the emotional bond that's held up between Duncan and Annie despite the time since they last saw each other.REAL MEN DO IT BETTER is a collection of steamy tales by four of today's hottest authors. All of the stories have awesome characters, witty dialogue, and delicious plots that readers will want to read again and again. Each story is very different from the other three and yet somehow they easily flow from one to the next. Normally with anthologies I'm able to read one story and leave the rest for later but this time I eagerly read each and every one of them in one sitting. I highly recommend this book.
