(More customer reviews)I have read all of Mr. Riker's books on Navy Seals and enjoyed each quite a bit. They struck me as being well-researched, as well as a rip-snorting read. This one is no exception as he continues the development of the characters Twidge Halstead and Doc Tangretti. I especially liked the way he dealt with the emotions they felt when they returned from Nam to come face-to-face with the anti-war movement. As a former serviceman, I almost felt that aspect as too close to home. Even though I noticed some errors in the way he had submarines do business in the last of In Harm's Way it was only a minor flaw in an otherwise excellent read.

(More customer reviews)I, being 16 years old and fasinated by military genre books andsuch, find this book amazing. I've already read Purple Heart, BronzeStar, and Navy Cross. After reading Medal of Honor, the book series was getting better and better. This series is excellent and H. Jay Riker is an excellent writer. I wish I could meet the man behind these great novels. I'm now reading Silver Star (wasn't at the bookstore till recently) and I truely love it. I like the books about the SEALs over the UDT books, but without the UDT, there would be no SEALs. I only hope H. Jay Riker continues to write about SEALs and makes books like these.

(More customer reviews)First of, I would like to say that the Seals, The Warrior Breed series is excellent! Gripping, captivating, truly believable combat scenes, and characters. This series is every bit as good, if not better than all of W.E.B. Griffin's series on the Army and Marine Corp.
However, I noticed one error in Purple Heart. In Chapter One, Joe Galloway's Character is identified as a Navy Captain, and in the Epilogue, he is referred to as an Admiral. Both Chapter One and the Epilogue occur on the same day in November 1961. I find it to be a slight oversight on the Editor's part; however, it is mildly annoying.
I contacted the author, and the publisher and as yet have not received a response from them.

The Silent Service: Grayback Class Review

(More customer reviews)This book was a page turner. It held more than enough suspense to keep me going. While the character depth wasn't all it could be, you still cared about their well being. The action in this book was excellent, and even though the plot sounds thin, that is probably the way that information was found on the Russian Akula class subs. A fine read, and I'll watch for the next Silent Service to come out.

The Silent Service: Virginia Class Review

(More customer reviews)I've read the whole series, and Virginia Class was a terrific book. I can't understand the two previous reviews of one star. One of them gave it a "one" because he didn't like it that Al-Queda was the terrorist group they were fighting. (Would it have been believable if they had been Norwegians?) The other reviewer gave it a 1 because he found it less than perfect in technical details. Assuming that the reviewer was correct and the author wrong, I still can't see why that is so important to someone, since it's a novel and not a technical manual.
This was a novel that took the series into present times with a Virginia Class submarine. The plot was believable and well executed, with the U.S. contending with the Chinese and Al-Qaeda who have joined together. The characterization was excellent as it is in all Riker's books. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to the next book in this series (I hope!).

Marks of Valor (Seals: The Warrior Breed, Book 6) Review

(More customer reviews)Having read books 1-5 in the SEALS:The Warrior Breed series, I couldn't wait to get my hands on book 6, Marks of Valor. The book is an excellent continuance in the series of characters which I have grown attached to. In the book, there could have been a little more action. The book spent more time on getting to know the SEALs and how it was like back in America during the Vietnam War. (I'm one of those who like to read about the guerrilla fighting) I think H. Jay Riker is writing an excellent series and this book continues to pull me deeper into it. Excellent work, Mister Riker. I can't wait to read "In Harm's Way" and other books following it in this excellent and ongoing series.

(More customer reviews)This was a very fast, engaging, enjoyable story from beginning to end. I have read all of the Silent Service series books by H. Jay Riker and they just keep getting better. I am really eager for the next one, which -- I won't give anything away -- the epilogue suggests will be called VIRGINIA CLASS. At least I hope so. I am a real fan of submarine novels and this one stands up well compared to the rest of them. Read it soon!

(More customer reviews)I judge most books by how much I look forward to getting back to it once I put it down and whether or not I fall asleep immediately after opening the cover. I do most of my reading during my daily train commute into the Big Apple and it takes a lot to keep me awake and interested in any reading material. Riker provides some excellent material to fill the 90 minute train ride and its material I look forward to reading and when I open the cover I DO NOT fall asleep. Technical content I don' know about, I do know his material keeps my interest high and I enjoy reading it! I look forward to other works by Riker!

Not only does the reader get a gritty look at what it was like to be a SEAL in the Vietnam era but also what kind of men did the job. You actually get a look at SEAL lives outside of the jungle giving you a chance to know the men. Action and Navy life all in one. A great read for those wanting to know how it was to be a SEAL then and a great read for SEALS of the future. Awesome book and a awesome series!!!
